Federal Judge in Texas Gains GOP Support in Public Dispute with Senate Majority Leader

WASHINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) – The Chief Judge of the Northern District of Texas is getting support in a public disagreement with the Senate Majority Leader over so-called “judge-shopping.”

Senator John Cornyn spoke on the Senate Floor denouncing Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s request for a new case assignment proposal in Texas.

“Unsurprisingly there is no requirement that Chief Judges consult with the Majority Leader of the Senate when deciding how to assign cases within their district,” Cornyn said on the Senate Floor. “There’s this thing called Separation of Powers.”

“I know that’s politics but that’s not the way the laws are supposed to be interpreted or applied by the courts,” Cornyn added.

Schumer responded to the Chief Judge’s refusal by saying it was unfortunate. It stems from lawsuits challenging President Joe Biden’s policies.
