Prosperity Bank in Haltom City has set up an account to receive the donations, which will be split evenly between the three families.

The event comes almost a week to the day that Corporal Zach Tabler, Officer Jose Avila and Officer Tim Barton were shot by the accused gunman 28-year-old Edward Freyman, who took his own life during the standoff.

Detective Matt Spillane said two of the officers are still in the hospital.

“Corporal Taylor and Officer Avila are doing as well as we could hope but they both have a long road to recovery ahead of them. They’ve had several surgeries and we anticipate them having several more. Officer Barton was released on Sunday and he is doing well,” he said.

The situation has rocked the Haltom City community and residents and police alike are struggling to grapple with what happened.

“We had three injured officers…we also had multiple officers that had to return fire which is always harrowing experience for officers under the most justified circumstances…we had two civilians that were killed…another civilian that was wounded…a suspect that took his own life,” said Det. Spillane.

Police said Freyman fatally shot 32-year-old Amber Tsai at her home. He’s also accused of killing 33-year-old Collin Davis outside Tsai’s residence. Investigators said Freyman fired the shot that hit Davis from inside the residence.

The Texas Rangers are looking into the motive behind the killings.
