Denton County Cancels COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic Thursday Due to Winter Weather Conditions

DENTON  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Denton County Public Health has canceled its second dose COVID-19 vaccine clinic for Thursday, February 11th, due to expected icy conditions in the region.

Parts of North Texas were under a Winter Weather Advisory Wednesday and forecasters predict that frigid temperatures, which have been at below freezing, could continue tomorrow.

County Judge Andy Eads said the safety of staff and residents is paramount.

“We do not want to bring our residents out on icy roads or have our crews and volunteers working in below-freezing weather,” he said.

DCPH said appointments scheduled for Thursday will be moved to Friday afternoon from noon – 4 p.m., February 12th at Texas Motor Speedway.

The department said on Friday, the clinic will administer about 3,000 second doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine as well as 4,500 first doses of Pfizer BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine.

DCPH will send appointment information Wednesday via email and text messages for those awaiting their second dose as well as those next in line via the Vaccine Interest Portal waitlist for first dose scheduling.

Dr. Matt Richardson, DCPH Director urged the community to be patient.

“While we know our community members are eager to be vaccinated, the health and safety of the attendees, staff and volunteers is most important,” he said. “We are hopeful the weather will be more cooperative Friday for a safe, efficient and effective vaccine clinic.”
