FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- The Fort Worth Police Oversight monitor is hosting several meetings to help improve community-police relationships.
Police Oversight Monitor Kim Neal says there’s six meetings for specific divisions that corresponds with each neighborhood.
Neal said they sent out a survey to get an idea on some topics community members would like to address and they will use recommendations from the meeting to present city council with the proposed Police Oversight Model.
“We want to engage the community and police with roundtable topics and then get recommendations on how the community, our office, the police department and the city should move forward,” said Neal.
The City of Fort Worth’s Office of the Police Oversight Monitor was first established in February 2020 to provide oversight and accountability of the Fort Worth Police Department. Kim Neal, was appointed as the City of Fort Worth’s first Police Monitor in March 2020. Efforts to build this newly-created office first began in mid-March 2020.
The virtual Collaborative Conversation series will be conducted in six divisions of Fort Worth:
North Division, 6-8 p.m. Sept. 18.
South Division, 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 19.
Northwest Division, 6-8 p.m. Sept. 22.
West Division, 10 a.m.-noon Sept. 26.
East Division, 6-8 p.m. Sept. 29.
Central Division, 6-8 p.m. Sept. 30.
All discussions will include a bilingual breakout session.

The conversations are being facilitated by the city’s Office of the Police Oversight Monitor in collaboration with multiple community stakeholders and the Fort Worth Police Department.
