AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas Restaurant Association is celebrating the extension from Governor Greg Abbott on allowing mixed drinks under the alcohol-to-go waiver.

TRA President Dr. Emily Williams Knight says this is another helpful moment during the struggles in the coronavirus pandemic.

“If you’re a restaurant that now that has a lot of bottles that you can’t move because customers aren’t coming in and your dining room capacity has been reduced, you now can now mix that and make the best margaritas that people really want and send it out the door safely with food,” Knight said.

The restaurant must mix the drink onsite and seal the container for the customer to take it home.

Governor Abbott has already indicated he supports the idea of having alcohol-to-go permanent.

Knight says the extension will take the availability all the way to the 2021 Legislative Session where it could become Texas law.
