Fax Machine Error Prevented Amber Alert For Fort Worth Abduction

ITarrant County, Texas (WBAP/KLIF) – Fort Worth Police say an error with a fax machine is the reason an Amber Alert from over the weekend did not make its way to local radio stations.

8-year-old Salem Sabatka was abducted around 6:30 Saturday night….almost three hours later, police e-mailed the amber alert to the DPS.

The department says currently fax is the only way to send radio stations the proper information, but will recommend changes to meet modern standards.

Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price says the system needs an update after the public didn’t receive the alert other than through social media.

Meantime, the Forest Hill Police Department is also conducting an investigation into how its officers handled Saturday’s abduction.

It was Forest Hill police who initially showed up to the hotel Michael Webb was staying at with Salem Sabatka…but when officers searched

the room,  they did  not find her.

Hours later, Fort Worth police showed up and did find her in the room.

Forest Hill police canceled a press conference last-minute at the advice of their legal team, citing an ongoing investigation.
