First Responders Honored for Saving the Life of Veteran Dallas Police Officer

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – The Dallas Police Department is honoring first responders who are credited with saving the life of a veteran Dallas Officer.

Senior Corporal Jaime Castro was driving on a North Texas Freeway earlier this month when his vision became blurry and he felt sick. He pulled over to the side of the road. He was able to get out of his car and flag down Deputy Constable Erik Heilmann. Deputy Constable Heilmann called 911. Paramedics from Dallas-Fire-Rescue responded and transported Senior Corporal Castro to Parkland Memorial Hospital where Parkland medical staff took immediate medical action, resulting in Senior Corporal Castro experiencing a full medical recovery. Dallas Police Officers who were at Parkland, for an unrelated event, also assisted Senior Corporal Castro as he arrived to the hospital.

“It taught me a valuable lesson to pay attention those who truly love you,” Castro said.

Dallas Police Chief Renee Hall thanked the heroes’ for saving Castro’s life.

“This is an example of how truly lucky we are to have such dedicated first responders.”

A ceremony honoring the first responders was held Wednesday at Dallas Police headquarters.
