Amber Alert for Missing Richardson Toddler Discontinued

RICHARDSON  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Amber Alert for a missing Richardson toddler has been discontinued but police say they’re still searching for three-year-old Sherin Mathews.

She vanished after her father put her outside around three a.m. on Saturday as punishment for not finishing her milk. Wesley Mathews, Sherin’s father, was arrested on child endangerment charges and released on bond.

The Richardson Police Department’s Sergeant Kevin Perlich said the alert was discontinued because the case did not meet certain criteria to keep it active.

“There was no specific vehicle information or suspect information to put out that would warrant the Amber Alert to continue or for people to be on the lookout for a specific person or vehicle,” he said.

Perlich said the alert can be re-activated if investigators learn of a particular suspect or car involved in the case and that investigators are working other leads.

“We’ve done a lot of searching and we’ve gathered a lot of evidence and its just a matter of being able to cipher through all of that. Once we get some of that, hopefully we will have a better direction of where we need to go with this,” said Perlich.

Meanwhile, Marissa Gonzalez with Child Protective Services has been working authorities on the case from the beginning.

She said they removed Sherin’s four-year-old sister from the home and placed her in foster care.

“Anytime a child is placed in foster care that is a temporary measure. Usually, there is a hearing within the next 14 days to talk about what the next steps will be,” said Gonzalez.

The Richardson Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact them.
