New Search for Missing Retired Dallas Firefighter Underway

HUNT COUNTY  (WBAP/KLIF News) – Authorities expanded their search for missing retired Dallas firefighter Michael Chambers Wednesday morning.

The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office’s Jeff Haines said search dogs led them to a new area, at Deer Lane and FM 2101, about 500 yards from Chambers’ home on Saturday but they lost the scent due to heavy traffic.

“We wanted to get out here earlier today with these canines, we hope to be able to pick that scent back up and follow it from there,” he said.

The 70-year-old was last seen March 10th at the WalMart in Quinlan. Authorities found blood in the workshop at his home but Haines said there’s no clear indication that foul play was involved.

“The residence was in good order. In the shop area where he was known to work on cars and spent a lot of his free time…there was no signs of foul play there,” he said.

Today’s search will be scaled back from last week, which had more than 100 people involved. Haines said that search crews are expecting the search in the new area to be difficult.

“If it’s like a lot of rural areas out in this part of the county, there will be a lot of underbrush…a lot of thicket. This time of year, with the trees blooming, it will start growing out again. There’s no telling what kind of terrain they’ll be facing today,” he said.

Chambers was a firefighter for 36 years with the Dallas Fire Department before he retired in 2008.

The Hunt County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about Chambers’ disappearance to give them a call.
