Bangladesh Prefers Trump To Biden

Experts on Bangladesh’s foreign policy and electoral reform gathered last Wednesday in Washington, D.C., at the East-West Center to discuss the country’s shifting role on the global stage.

The meeting comes just 11 months after Sheikh Hasina, prime minister of Bangladesh from June 1996 to July 2001 and again from January 2009 to August 2024, was overthrown following massive demonstrations about her heavy-handed rule and hard-line against political opponents.

The premier figure in the new government is economist and Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, famed for developing the concept of microfinance and microcredit, and who now holds the title of Chief Adviser.
