(WBAP/KLIF) — Trucks with new food shipments will soon be rolling to the North Texas Food Bank. The food bank serves 13 counties in North Texas and received some good news, Tuesday.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins says they’ve facilitated a rule change with FEMA to allow funds to be used at food banks. He says it was a joint effort between state and county leaders.
Jenkins says the move greatly helps, but there’s still a need. The food bank still needs generous donations to feed hungry Texas families during the pandemic. 70% of families seeking food have never been to a food bank.
Since Sunday, about a quarter of a million dollars have been donated to the North Texas food bank Jenkins says that even with the new money, the North Texas food bank is still $3-million short in serving its 13 county region. The FEMA rule change also benefits 21 food banks throughout the state of Texas.
