State and Local Leaders Assessing Medical Supplies Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Twenty-one hospitals have reported ventilator and bed capacity numbers this week to Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson’s office.

Dallas hospitals are required to report the information pursuant to the City of Dallas emergency regulations enacted by Mayor Johnson during the coronavirus pandemic. According to the city, the reporting requirements are meant to provide data to decision-makers and information to the public regarding the medical community’s capacity to handle an expected increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

Below are the aggregate totals for Sunday April 5, as reported by the 21 hospitals:

  • Total beds: 5,236
    • Beds occupied: 2,571
  • Total ICU beds: 778
    • ICU beds occupied: 476
  • Total ventilators: 887
    • Ventilators in use: 309

On the state level, Governor Greg Abbott announced Monday that Texas received 2.5 million masks in the past 24 hours, and will receive an additional 3 million masks by April 11th.

“It is vital that our health care workers and first responders on the front lines have the personal protective equipment they need to stay safe as they respond to COVID-19,” said Governor Abbott. “The Supply Chain Strike Force is working closely with the Texas Division of Emergency Management to exhaust all avenues for the purchasing and delivery of these critical supplies.”

The Governor said the state continues to make tremendous progress to distribute resources throughout the state.
