DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF)- Over 150 men ages 15-24 will head to The Mark Cuban Heroes Basketball Center Saturday and leave with a new outlook on life. Tina Terrell is the creator of the ‘Suit Up Experience’, she said these young men will get more than just a suit. “We will give hygiene tips, wardrobe styling, tie tutorials, teaching them about the importance of career readiness, hair cuts and we will have speakers here to talk mental health,” she said.
Terrell said they will also have mentors that will follow up and keep them on track to find a job.The Suit Up Experience began five years ago as a male version of the “prom dress project,” which quickly evolved into a year-round program tailored to educate and equip young men in various areas of their life.
To date, more than 4,000 young men have received suits, grooming, wardrobe styling and life skills programs, thanks to numerous donors.
Devon Guilbaux, 24, said he got a perfectly fitted suit and tips to build his confidence. “Ever since I have started this program things have been going well. I got a job at the American Airlines Center, done shadowing programs and got to meet people I may never have had the chance to meet,” he said.
Nick Graham is a basketball character development coach. He said he will be speaking to the young men, taking his experience and using it to help others.
“Helping them understand how to polish themselves. It’s like refining gold and making sure that when they are in professional situation moving forward they are polished and can positively represent themselves to build their foundation for success,” said Graham.
In honor of the fifth successful year, the program is expanding to other cities across the nation where approximately 150 young men will benefit per event: New Orleans, Atlanta, Detroit, Chicago and Lexington, Miss.
The sponsors of the 2020 event in Dallas are Concord Church, Heroes Foundation, Mavs Foundation, Lombardo Custom Apparel and Skinzwrap.com.
If you missed the sign up, there will be anther opportunity in Tarrant County April 4th.
