Midlothian City Council Member Dies in Tragic Accident

MIDLOTHIAN  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Midlothian community is mourning the tragic loss of a city council member this week.

Art Pierard was killed when he was hit by an 18-wheeler in Waxahachie on I-35E near U.S. Highway 77 late Wednesday.

Investigators said it seemed as if Pierard had gotten out of his car after getting stuck and was standing near it when he was hit.

When first responders arrived, Pierard’s car was found stuck in a median facing south and an 18-wheeler was stuck in the mud near northbound exit 397.

He had been a member of the Midlothian City Council since 2018.

In a statement, Mayor Richard Reno said Pierard’s former colleagues are also heartbroken.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.”

Pierard leaves behind a wife and daughter.

Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
