AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Governor Greg Abbott’s Domestic Terrorism Task Force is expanding its scope to look at all types of attacks on groups and individuals in the wake of recent events.
Governor Abbott says they are not just focusing on matters affecting Texas currently. They are also looking at what is happening in other parts of the United States.
“It could be these attacks that did not occur in Texas, as far as I am aware of, but that occurred recently, nationally, up in the northeast. Attacks on members of the Jewish community,” Abbott said.
The task force is also looking at cyber attacks including ransomware and other viruses.
“You may or may not know it at first,” Abbott said. “Sometimes there are things that are embedded in someone’s computer or phone or other device that may not surface for months or even years later.”
Governor Abbott did briefly address the church shooting in White Settlement. He said it is too early to tell if that attack could be considered an act of domestic terrorism.
“We did talk in this meeting some aspects of it such as among other things the display of it on social media,” Abbott said.
The task force was formed in the aftermath of the El Paso mass shooting that killed several people at a Walmart.
