(WBAP/KLIF) — The city of Dallas just experienced one of the deadliest years in over a decade. Unofficially, the city recorded 209 homicides in 2019, 7 more than in 2005.
Violent crimes increased dramatically in 2019 with 209 homicides, a 15% jump in robberies, and a 19% increase in aggravated assaults.
Dallas Police Association president Mike Mata says they expected the rise and criminals in the metro area aren’t afraid of Dallas police. Mata also says police chief Renee’ Hall’s tactics have not been effective.
Mayor Eric Johnson insisted the city manager and police chief develop a plan to combat violent crimes in the city.
WFAA reports that chief Hall plans to release her comprehensive plan by the end of the week.
