Cornyn Defends Decision Not to Call Witnesses

Senator John Cornyn

(WBAP/KLIF) – The decision not to call witnesses in an upcoming senate impeachment trial is a simple one for the senior senator from Texas.

Senator John Cornyn says it is up to the House to show evidence for removal from office.

“It’s up to the House to develop the evidence that they then want to present to the Senate who then sits as a jury,” Cornyn said Wednesday while the House was debating articles of impeachment.

“Democrats are now getting nervous about the adequacy or the sufficiency of the record because Senator Schumer wouldn’t want to be calling additional witnesses if he thought what Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler and Nancy Pelosi did was sufficient.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced this week they would not have witnesses after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer demanded at least four testify.
