Check Your Fridge: Salad Kit Linked to E. Coli Outbreak

Washington, DC (WBAP/KLIF)  Health officials are investigating a multi-state outbreak of E. Coli linked to a Salinas, California-based company’s salad kit.  The Centers for Disease Control says you should avoid eating Fresh Express Sunflower Crisp Chopped Salad Kits with expiration dates of up to an including December 7th.

Those kits will have the UPC Code 0 71279 30906 4, beginning with lot code Z.  If you usually buy these kits, check your fridge.  If you have a package, don’t eat it.  Throw it away.  Even if some of the kit was eaten and no one got sick, you should throw the rest away.  You should also wash and sanitize drawers or shelves in refrigerators where the salad kit was stored.  Retailers and restaurants should not sell or serve this salad kit.  Eight people have gotten sick from the salad and three people have been hospitalized.  No deaths have been reported.  Officials don’t know if this is somehow linked to a more widespread E. Coli outbreak affecting romaine lettuce from the Salinas area that has sicked more than 100 people in 23 states.
