Suspect Arrested, Charged with Capital Murder in Hunt County Shooting

GREENVILLE (WBAP/KLIF) – A North Texas man is jailed in the shooting at a weekend party in Hunt County that left two people dead and six others hurt.

According to the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened at a venue off of HWY 380 early Sunday morning. Hundreds of Texas A&M University at Commerce were believed to be attending the party when shots rang out.

After more than 24 hours of interviewing witnesses, Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks announced the arrest of 23-year-old Brandon Gonzalez, who is charged with Capital Murder.

Meeks said Gonzalez was arrested at a local auto shop where he worked Monday morning.

“He got up and went to work,” said Meeks. “He was arrested without incident.”

Meeks said it’s believed one of the victims was targeted by Gonzalez.

“[He] hasn’t said that, but we have information tomake us believe the first victim may have been targeted,” Meeks said.

No motive in the shooting has been given. The investigation is ongoing.

“We’ve had a wake up call in Hunt County,” Sheriff Meeks said.
