DALLAS (AP) – The judge presiding over the murder trial of a white Dallas police officer who shot and killed her black neighbor has accused the Dallas County district attorney of violating her gag order in the case.
In an order setting an Oct. 31 hearing, Judge Tammy Kemp said an on-camera interview with District Attorney John Creuzot (krew-ZOH’) that aired Sept. 22 on a Dallas television station was a “direct violation” of her order. The hearing is to allow Creuzot to explain why he shouldn’t be held in contempt of court.
In the interview, Creuzot explained why he thought Amber Guyger was correctly charged with murder in the September 2018 shooting of Botham Jean (BOH’-thuhm JAHN). A Dallas County jury found Guyger guilty of murder on Tuesday and sentenced her the next day to 10 years in prison.
A spokeswoman for Creuzot didn’t immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
