DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF News) – A second suspect has been arrested in the tragic murder of a 9-year-old girl in Old East Dallas last month.
Brandoniya Bennett was the unintended victim in a drive-by shooting at the Roseland Town Homes along 3500 Munger Avenue August 14th.
Dallas Police arrested 19-year-old Davonte Benton Thursday and charged him with capital murder.
He’s being held on a $500,000 bond.
Another suspect, Tyrese Simmons, turned himself into police the day after the shooting.
Investigators say the incidents stemmed from a gang-related dispute between two rappers.
According to police, witnesses say the suspects approached an apartment, demanding that one of the tenants come outside.
When that person refused, Benton and Simmons allegedly circled around the back of the apartment building and started shooting into the wrong unit.
After the shooting, many community members and pastors began calling for meetings to come up with ways to combat the violence in the area.
