AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF) – Texas Governor Greg Abbott has issued eight executive orders in an attempt to prevent future mass shootings from happening in the state.
The orders affect the Texas Department of Public Safety, local law enforcement throughout the state, schools and mental-health professionals.
Most of the orders involve strengthening the process of submitting a Suspicious Activity Report and how to appropriately go about that if a person should be reported as someone who could carry out a deadly attack.
Most of the orders go into effect within thirty or sixty days.
This follows the deadly mass shootings in August in El Paso and Odessa where a combined 29 people were killed.
Earlier this week, Texas House democrats called for an emergency session of the Texas Legislature. Governor Abbott has not felt that to be necessary.
