FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF)- In light of the recent tragedies and mass shootings, MedStar is offering a free class to teach citizens what to do in an emergency and how to become a first responder.

Matt Zavadsky with MedStar says the ‘Stop the Bleed’ class will teach bystanders how to control a life threatening hemorrhage,CPR and how to use a defibrillator. “These three skills truly make the difference in life and death.. as first responders, we know even the best EMS system is not going to be able to get to a patient in under 6 minutes but bystanders can,” said Zavadsky. He says the more MedStar can equip bystanders, the better the chances of people surviving these events are going to be.

The class is on Saturday, September 21st from 9 am to 12 pm at the MedStar Headquarters on 2900 Alta Mere Road in West Fort Worth.
