PLANO (WBAP/KLIF)- The football game between Plano Senior High School and El Paso Eastwood high school will be rescheduled to September 5th at the Star in Frisco
School board members were hesitant about this match up initially because the gunman who killed 22 people at an El Paso Walmart graduated from Plano Senior High School.
Plano ISD Superintendent Sarah Bonser said she puts the safety of students and the community first and does not regret the decision for initially canceling the game. “Today in middle of all the questions Dr. Mike Waldrip from Frisco ISD reached out to me and offered the use of the Dallas Cowboys Star Center for this very important game” she said.
Plano ISD Officials didn’t address if there were any actual threats regarding this game, but wanted to take extra precautions regarding the circumstances.
“The circumstances surrounding this game were very unique,” said Joseph Parks, Plano ISD’s Executive Director of Safety and Security Services. “The venue at the Star is more secure, it’s a professional venue…your high school stadiums don’t have that level of security,” he said.
“Of course at the core of every student activity, safety is our first consideration,” said Plano Senior High Principal Sarah Watkins. “I am thankful for the support from our district to find a safe solution in order to make this event happen,” she said.
