DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Democratic Presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke is back on the campaign trail after being in his hometown of El Paso since August 3 following the mass shooting there that left 22 people dead.
Police have said the alleged shooter in the attack targeted Mexicans.
O’Rourke announced Thursday that he is tweaking his approach to the race for the Presidency.
The former Texas Congressman said he has been rethinking his campaign and can’t in good conscience go to popular campaign spots like the Iowa state fair.
“I can’t go back for that,” said O’Rourke. “But i also can’t go back to that.”
He said instead, he’ll focus on places and people affected by what he calls hateful rhetoric from the Trump administration.
“We’re heading to Mississippi to be with those families who have lost a loved one temporarily or maybe for the indefinite future because of the hostility of this administration.”
Hundreds of people were arrested by ICE agents last week in a raid in Mississippi.
