DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Frustration continues to grow for many former residents of the Dallas apartment complex condemned after last month’s crane collapse.

One person was killed when the crane crashed onto the Elan City Lights apartments near Deep Ellum in high winds on June 9. It’s been almost 50 days and many resident’s haven’t been able to pick up most of their possessions.

“Some have gone out and purchased new stuff and some are still sleeping on air mattresses,” former resident, Jon Ross said.

Ross said the communication between the apartment management company and the former residents has been minimal. According to Ross, and posts made to the Facebook group, ‘Elan City Neighbors,’ most residents have only had a total of five minutes to get “essential belongings.”

“The majority of what we have in there; mattresses, couches, television, larger stuff, is still sitting in there,” Ross said.

Ross is organizing a community meeting Saturday and is hopeful residents will get some clarity then. It’s unclear representatives from the apartment or other agencies will attend.

Tuesday, the crane was still lodged into the apartment building.
