MCKINNEY(WBAP/KLIF)-Thousands of people line the streets in Historic Downtown McKinney to watch the Red White and Boom Parade.
For many, it’s a tradition to dress up and spend the day with friends and family. “There’s a lot of different people here and no one is arguing …there’s Trump fans, there’s Beto fans and no one really cares it’s cool,” said Haddon Sheets.
“July 4th is a time for no matter what you believe in you can come together and just celebrate this place where we live and the place where we learn to thrive and become who we want to be,” said Mckenna Biedebach.
There’s a full day of events scheduled. An old fashioned Yankee Doodle block party that includes regatta races, yard games, crafts and more.
“The reality is small town America is shrinking with all the inner cities becoming larger and larger and the economic development, you don’t see a lot of parades like this so it’s fun to come out here,” said John Biedebach.
Nathan Sheets is from McKinney, he’s been coming to the parade for 6 years and has made it his family tradition.
“One of favorite parts of the parade is seeing the veterans that come through here. We just really enjoy celebrating and showing our appreciation for them and what they have done to allow us these freedoms,” he said.
If you missed the parade there’s also and a classic car, truck and cycle show and evening activities at Craig Ranch starting at 5:30 p.m. Fireworks starting at 9:45 p.m.
Families can also explore the many dining and shopping options that downtown has to offer.
