Dallas County Commissioner’s Court Considering Voting Changes

DALLAS  (WBAP/KLIF News) – The Dallas County Elections Office is asking the commissioner’s court to start using voting centers on election days to help increase voter turnout, ease congestion and decrease wait times.

The move would allow voters to cast their ballots anywhere in the county instead of specific places.

At a Dallas County commissioner’s meeting Monday, the League of Women Voter’s Elizabeth Wally told the commissioners the change would be beneficial to everyone.

“For the convenience of people who live in cities like Richardson and so forth…for jurisdictions cross county lines…because there’s great confusion right now for people to know where to vote,” she said.

Wally said if the equipment is compatible, then there should be no reason why any county couldn’t convert to regional systems. The election centers have already been implemented by numerous Texas counties.

“We’re proud of our county and honored to be part of the process and look forward for Dallas County to join Collin, Tarrant, Harris, Travis, Lubbock and many other counties around the state which have already converted to election day centers,” she said.

The movements had overwhelming support from public speakers.

Republican Commissioner JJ Koch said the process feels rushed.
