DALLAS – (WBAP/KLIF) – The Richardson father charged with Capital Murder in the 2017 death of his adopted daughter Sherin Mathews has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge.
Just before Wesley Mathews’ murder trial began Monday, he pleaded guilty to Injury to a Child by Omission.
During the punishment phase of the trial, the state told the jury that Mathews is not the kind of person he claims to be.
“This persona we’re going to break down for you all. You’re going to see evidence of who Wesley Mathews really is,” prosecutors told the jury.
Mathews still faces up to life in prison if convicted, but under the plea deal a jury could hand out a lesser sentence.
