DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Dallas’ newly elected Mayor said Friday that law enforcement and leaders at Dallas City Hall are working together to reduce a recent increase in violent crime in the city.
As of Friday, the number of murders in Dallas was 103 this year. 40 of those occurred in the month of May.
During his first public appearance since taking Office, Mayor Eric Johnson spoke at an immigration rally downtown. Afterward, he briefly addressed the recent increase in murders with reporters.
“I can assure you that there is no one that doesn’t take [this] seriously,” said Johnson. From the Police Chief to the City Manager, myself, and the City Council.”
Johnson has yet to announce specifics of a plan to reduce crime, but said the issue is being addressed.
“We all at City Hall are taking very seriously what’s going on and we are working with various levels of law enforcement to make sure we are addressing the situation,” Johnson said.
Earlier this month the Dallas Police Department accepted assistance from Texas DPS following a violent month of May.
“We’re going to get it under control,” assured the new Mayor.
