AUSTIN (WBAP/KLIF News) — Texas’ interim Secretary of State has resigned.
Governor Greg Abbott appointed David Whitley to the position in December, where Whitley then led an investigation into the citizenship of about 100,000 Texas voters.
The list he sent county elections offices was outdated, and most in fact were citizens.
Whitley stepped down just before the close of Monday’s closing ceremony at the Texas legislative session. He wrote a letter to the Austin American Statesman thanking the state for allowing him to serve.
Governor Abbott will now appoint a new Secretary of State, who will hold the position until the next legislative session in two years.
