DALLAS (WBAP/KLIF) – Nine candidates for Dallas Mayor were on Saturday’s ballot.
The Dallas County elections department reported slightly higher numbers than recent city elections, but saw only 9% voter percent voter turnout just before the polls closed. Dallas County reported close to a 1.5 million registered voters and just over 130,000 ballots cast.
In a crowded field of candidates, the Dallas Mayor race is headed for a run-off. Two experienced politicians will go head to head to replace current Mayor Mike Rawlings who faces term limits. Dallas City Councilman Scott Griggs received several percentage points less than State Representative Eric Johnson.
“Our team did such good work,” said Rep. Johnson. “I’m excited for a chance to keep it going.”
Griggs thanked his volunteers and encouraged them in the five weeks of campaigning ahead.
“We are in this because we are not a campaign,” said Griggs. This is a movement that believes in the people of the City of Dallas. That is what has got us through.”
The runoff is set for Saturday, June 8.
