Austin (WBAP/KLIF) – The Texas house is set to vote on a 9-billion dollar plan aimed at overhauling the way public schools are funded statewide.
The highly debated bill gives $6.3 billion of new money to public schools over the next two years. A snapshot of some North Texas school districts shows Plano getting over $30-million; $114-million is earmarked for Dallas ISD and Fort Worth would get over $65-million. See more schools here.
Among other things, the bill also funds pre-k programs for low-income students, and provide incentives for top-ranking teachers to work in poorer schools.
The bill also drops tax rates for homeowners. The legislation reduces tax rates for an average homeowner in Dallas by about $150 for homes valued at about $192,000.
If passed, the bill would head to the Senate for approval.
