Dallas-Fort Worth (WBAP/KLIF) – American and Southwest Airlines are closely watching the investigation into the deadly crash of an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737-MAX8, as both, the Fort Worth based and Dallas based carriers have dozens of such planes in operation.

It’s the second such aviation accident involving that Boeing specific model in six months, and airline officials are anxious to determine the cause.

Former pilot and Dallas based aviation expert Denny Kelly says the airlines use the Boeing 737 MAX8 because they’re economical to operate.

“The 737 is a wonderful airplane, it’s a great airplane, all of Boeings planes are great … but some of’em crash, and sometimes there’s a problem.”

An Ethiopian Airlines flight crashed shortly after takeoff from Ethiopia’s capital on Sunday morning, killing all 157 on board.

Both Southwest and American issued statements of sympathy to families of the victims. Ten Americans were among the crash victims.
