Dallas (WBAP/KLIF) – A Dallas judge has given Sini Mathews her passport back nearly a week after charges were dropped against her in connection with the death of her adoptive daughter in 2017.
3-year old Sherin Mathews was found dead in a culvert in Richardson, weeks after she was reported missing; her adoptive father is charged with capital murder in the case.
Sini Mathews had been jailed on a child abandonment charge, but the charge was dismissed after the district attorney said there was not enough evidence to move forward.
Defense attorney Heath Harris says the judge had little choice but to return the passport which was taken when she Mathews was arrested. He said that she has no plans to go anywhere, but she can do so if she so chooses.
Mathews lost parental rights to a biological daughter who has been adopted by relatives. Lawyers are reviewing options to possibly return her to her mother.
