Social Media Post Prompts Hundreds to Attend Burial for Vietnam Veteran

KILLEEN (WBAP/KLIF) – A crowd of patriotic Texans paid respects to a Vietnam veteran who they never knew, Monday morning. A veterans cemetery in Killeen called for the community to attend the burial service after learning the veteran may be buried alone.

U.S. Air Force Veteran Joseph Walker was laid to rest with military honors. The Central Texas Veterans Cemetery made a post to social media last week asking the community to come to the service, writing “We don’t leave veterans behind.” Hundreds of people got the message and showed up to the burial, causing the start time to be delayed because of heavy traffic into the cemetery.

“I don’t have a whole lot of information,” said a member of the Patriot Guard who made remarks at the service. “But it doesn’t matter because once upon a time, like a lot of us other vets, he signed a blank check for our nation.”

Walker served in the Air Force from 1964 to 1968, including service in the Vietnam War.
