Increase in Sick Leave Amid Government Shutdown Affecting Two Major U.S. Airports, Causing Delays

(WBAP/KLIF) – Staffing shortages amid the government shutdown at two major airports in the northeast are causing some flights across the country to be delayed or re-routed, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
New jersey’s Newark International Airport and New York City’s Laguardia Airport are reportedly experiencing an increase in employees using sick leave. Officials at North Texas airports recommend taking precautions if flying to the northeast.

“The airport encourages customers to check with their airline before they come to the airport to check their flight status,” said Dallas Love Field Spokesman, Chris Perry. “It’s a fluid situation.”

Officials with Love Field and DFW Airport said Friday that staffing is sufficient but the situation in the northeast is causing slight delays.
