DENTON (WBAP/KLIF News) – Denton police are investigating a deadly crash after the bodies of two men were found in a car submerged in Hickory Creek.
The bodies were found Wednesday morning around 7:50 off Hickory Creek Road just east of FM 1830.
Texas Highway Patrol’s Lonnie Haschel said the white Volkswaggen Golf veered off the road, over and embankment and landed upside down in the water.
Investigators still don’t know what caused the crash.
“They will talk to family members, they will talk to look at vehicle records. They’ll look at maintenance records, they’ll look at roadway conditions, they’ll look at weather conditions. There’s a lot of things that will come into play,” said Haschel.
The family was at the scene of the crash as they waited for information from authorities.
Once the story hit social media, residents who lived near the area reacted to the tragedy.
One woman, who lives near the crash site, said on Twitter the area is dangerous because there are no barriers and no well-lit signage to warn people about the steep drop off leading into the creek.
