GARLAND (WBAP/KLIF) – Police in North Texas are warning of the dangers of celebratory gunfire this new year’s eve.
The Garland Police Department posted a video to social media saying it won’t tolerate gunshots into the air as midnight nears. Officer Pedro Barineaux said in the post that gun fire celebratory gunfire can bring expensive fines and possible jail time.
“If a bullet you fire harms someone you can face even more serious charges and you will go to jail,” said Officer Barineaux.
According to Garland PD, research shows a one in three chance of death if a falling bullet hits someone directly.
Police are also warning against the use of illegal fireworks to ring in the new year.
