(WBAP/KLIF) – Delta Airlines bans service and support animals under four months of age on all flights and ban support animals of any age on flights longer than eight hours. Sannon walker a service dog trainer for veterans with PTSD agrees with Delta’s new policy. “There is no way a service dog will be fully trained at 4 months of age or even be trained ell to go on a commercial airline,” Walker said. She said with her 24 years of experience, she wouldn’t even consider training a dog until it’s about 4 month old. “I think this makes sense, I think it’s a reasonable approach,” Walker said. She said this is Delta’s way of not discriminating all service animals who really do help people in need.
Delta is changing it’s policy after an increase in reported incidents involving attacks and health concerns. Delta reports incidents of soiled cabins and an incident where a service dog attacked a passenger who was stuck at the window seat. Customers with tickets purchased prior to Dec. 18, who have already requested to travel with an emotional support animal will be allowed to travel as originally ticketed.
