FORT WORTH – WBAP/KLIF – The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued an alert to North Texas of elevated fire dangers. The service says the greatest dangers for sparking brush fires is generally along and west of the line drawn by Interstate 35. Meterologist Bianca Villanueva says record rainfall during the months of September and October helped drive the growth of fire “fuel” in the form of grasses and weeds; that was followed by a lack of rain in November, drying everything out.
North Texas is expecting three cold fronts before rainfall arrives to help correct the dry situation. The first arrives this weekend, but is a weak front. Sunday night another, stronger front blows in with noticeable cooler temperatures. It’s not until Friday with arrival of yet another front expected that forecasters expect rain.
