The Southeast Fort Worth neighborhood, Ash Crescent is in need of fixing. The city has allocated $2.77 million to improve the neighborhood and make it a more livable area. “This is an area in District 8 that has no city services..it has no libraries no parks, has nothing that most of our central cities nearby have,” District 8 Council member Kelly Allen Gray said. Gray said they will be removing 38 tons of trash, installing security cameras, adding 83 LED street lights and repairing buildings. Crews have demolished some buildings and made room to build new homes. The city also implemented door to door outreach programs. Gray said not only is the city adding amenities and improving public safety but the city also formed a neighborhood association. The neighborhood association is made for the leaders in the Ash Crescent neighborhood to make a list of problems, ways to fix the problems and have long term goals for the neighborhood’s development and way of life. “People would stay inside… no one really knew their neighbors and to see them come together and form this strong bond and become voices in what happens in their neighborhood is really amazing,” Gray said. The group noted that if they had more police presence, street lights and security cameras, the neighborhood will most certainly improve.
