ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF News) — America’s Team is honoring two Cowboys fans from Northern California for today’s home game against the Washington Redskins.
Dale Morgan and his 11-year-old daughter, Jaelyn, lived in Paradise, California, until the now notorious Camp Fire destroyed their home along with thousands of others. Before they successfully evacuated Jaelyn grabbed the tickets her dad had purchased for this Thanksgiving Day game, tickets he had promised Jaelyn a couple of years ago.
When they arrived in Dallas this Wednesday they were greeted by cameras, microphones and team representatives who took them to AT&T Stadium. There the Morgans were treated to a personal tour of stadium and a meeting with team owner Jerry Jones and Cowboys executive vice president Charlotte Jones Anderson.
NBCDFW 5 News reports father and daughter were given some Cowboys gear, sideline passes and an opportunity for Jaelyn to join the Cowboys Cheerleaders and singer Megan Trainor on the field at half time.
“We’re just glad that they can come here and find happiness, find that smile,” said Jones Anderson. “And hopefully take some of that back with them.”
Morgan says they have no home to return to and he doesn’t know what they’ll do when they’re back in Northern California but he and Jaelyn are putting all thoughts of tomorrow off until tomorrow. Today they will get more than they dreamed of when Jaelyn grabbed those tickets and rushed for the door to escape the flames.
Morgan says, simply, “It’s overwhelming.”
