Man Pleads Guilty to Robbing a Richland Hills Bank to Pay Outstanding Storage Bill

Haltom City (WBAP/KLIF) – A Haltom City man will be sentenced in February after pleading guilty to the August robbery of a Richland Hills bank.

59-year Ronald Lynn Thomas told police that he owed money for storage, so he robbed a Wells Fargo to pay the bill.

Arrest records show that Thomas walked into the bank on a Boulevard 26 on August 2, wearing an Hawaiian shirt, and handed the teller a note which said, “Give me all the money or it’s going to get ugly.” He was given $9,250, before taking off on a lime bike.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Thomas owned back rent on a U-Haul unit on Flory Street in Richland HIlls. He went to that U-Haul, rented a truck for $250 and promised to return to pay the back rent. Later the same day, Thomas was stopped in a U-haul truck that he had rented. Nearly $8,000 was found inside the vehicle.

Thomas faces 20-years in prison and a $250-thousand dollar fine.
