FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Fort Worth man who spent 18 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit was formally exonerated Wednesday morning.
Prosecutors accused John Nolley of stabbing Sharon McClane of Bedford 57 times on December 14, 1996.
He was convicted in 1998 and was released in 2016.
As he walked out of the Tarrant County Courthouse; Nolley said although he can’t get the time he lost back, he did not feel bitter and had faith this day would come.
“As you grow and you mature, you kind of understand that the thoughts you have…other people have too and it’s just, you know, human error, we just make them because we’re human,” he said.
McClane’s death is still unsolved though members of the Innocence Project, which helped Nolley clear his name, said investigators do have suspects in mind.
Nolley was exonerated when investigators determined his blood wasn’t at the scene and that two informants lied during testimony.
He now has his own lawn care business and is married with a newborn son.
They are blessings Nolley said he cherishes everyday.
“The path I traveled you know it helps me to better appreciate life and relationships,” he said.
