FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF) – Grass fires have popped up all over rural Tarrant County this week and according to Tarrant County Fire Marshall Randy Renois there were about 45 grass fires leading into July 5th. Renois said that after investigations they found that almost all of them were firework related and urges residents to be mindful of the dry weather.
“Hold your fireworks until the weather and our conditions get better because our dry index continues to climb. The more that we don’t get rain and the higher temperatures just adds to it,” said Renois.
Renois said the county did exactly what it was supposed to in preparation for the holiday. He said they don’t usually have to implement a burn ban so early in the summer and that they had a few more fires this year but overall this was a typical Fourth of July for the county.
“We did what we thought we could do legally and we did our best to advice people not to shoot fireworks,” said Renois.
The burn ban is in affect for 90 days after July 3rd. For more questions or information go to www.tarrantcounty.com.
