McKinney, TX (WBAP/KLIF) – A group of McKinney North High School parents and students are calling for the district to add metal detectors to all high school campuses.
The move came just hours after a sophomore shot himself to death in an empty classroom Friday afternoon.
Parent Mike Timmons told WFAA-TV, who created a Facebook page dedicated to the issue, along with his wife, said some may think it’s too soon to bring it up, but he added that it’s soon enough.
The Facebook group is called, <strong><a href=”https://www.facebook.com/groups/1945902952406893/about/” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>McKinney Parents and Students for Metal Detectors</a></strong>
Soon after the page was created over 350 supporters had joined.
It’s a tough first day back for McKinney North HS students, three days after a student killed himself on campus. Asked some students if they thought metal detectors would make them feel safer. They hesitated. “I don’t know what will make us feel safe.” @WBAP247NEWS @570KLIF pic.twitter.com/7KOmaSUeVp

They are also calling fro more security at schools.
When Governor Abbott unveiled his school safety plan last week, metal detectors in schools was discussed among options for school, though he did not make it a ‘mandate.’ He said that leaders want their students to be safe, and that they will do whatever is necessary to do so, as evidenced by the number of schools which have, or are already planning to install metal detectors.
