UNT seeks family and friends to mourn the passing of a student, employee

Margaret Rosa King

DENTON, TEXAS (WBAP/KLIF News) — Margaret Rosa King passed away last September in Denton, where she was a student and employee at University of North Texas. She had spent many of her 67 years of life pursuing education and amassed six college degrees including two master’s. King served in the U.S. Air Force for three years and made a career of civil service for 30 years. By all recorded accounts she led a good and full life except that nobody seems to know her.

UNT officials are planning King’s funeral for this Wednesday because they can’t find any relatives or friends. Police investigated and learned that she was born in Brooklyn, New York. On Facebook she listed San Antonio as her hometown but even among Facebook “friends” no next of kin or close personal relationships could be found.

King began working as a custodian at UNT when she began her studies there in 2016. She was found dead next to her car in a parking lot at the school last September. A medical examiner has ruled she died by natural causes related to heart disease.

She will be laid to rest at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Wednesday with what is expected to be a lonely funeral service unless family and friends can be found by then.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports UNT spokeswoman Leigh Gullett is reaching out to areas in which King has been known to spend time. “We are hopeful that by sharing this information with as many media outlets in her previous locations as possible, that we may be able to reach family or friends who would like to know of her passing,” Gullett said.

If you have any information that may be helpful or if you were a friend or family member of Margaret Rosa King you are asked to contact the medical examiner at 817-920-5700.
