ALVORD (WBAP/KLIF News) – A Wise County elementary school has decided to end a long-standing tradition of giving special spankings on students’ birthdays.
In a superintendent Dr. Randy Brown said they’ve received three complaints about the practice at Alvord Elementary School.
He said even though he doesn’t see a problem with it, staff and students have more important issues to focus on.
Brown said the swats are not “actual spankings” and that kids can still come to the office and receive a hug or high five.
Before this decision, a letter from the principal indicated that parents had to request in writing that that their kids not receive the spankings on their birthday.
Dr. Brown said the principal decided on her own to discontinue the tradition.
