FORT WORTH (WBAP/KLIF News) — Pet owners in Fort Worth will be required to have their dogs and cats implanted with identification chips if the city council ratifies the plan.
The initiative is being advocated by Fort Worth Animal Services. While some pet owners are worried about the expense, FWAS says it will actually save people money because microchipping only costs twelve dollars and only needs to be purchased once. An annual pet license costs $36 and will no longer be required if microchipping is mandated.
Dallas made chips a requirement for pets last year.
